Today's GOP-- A Club For The Criminally Insane Whose Immediate Purpose Is To Destroy The President
Part 1
It would be easy to fall into a cycle of rage, frustration and despair after observing the antics of the House GOP leadership yesterday in the aftermath of their days long "orgy-porgy" (ref: "Brave New World") which they described as "leadership meetings." In fact, even easier would be to block it out, not watch, or pretend it never happened.
I would propose something other than giving them that small victory. We might treat it instead as would the head of a psychiatry department at a prestigious medical school, and analyze it clinically like we would a case study, as if we were preparing a curriculum for next year's graduating class of teachers, doctors and therapists. In other words, as scientists.
Or, we could go at it from the perspective of a great naturalist such as Lord Richard Attenborough, filming a documentary which chronicles the masturbation habits of Monkeys in the summertime, both in the wild and in captivity at your local zoo as a comparative study. (Who can watch and listen to Jim Jordan or Matt Gaetz speaking at a press conference without conjuring up that image?)
As for myself, I'll stick with my non-imaginary role as a 35 year veteran political organizer and strategic briefing "OOD" (officer of the day) who is preparing a team of fundraisers to get on the phones or go out in the field to enlist people in a fight for economic justice and against fascism. That requires a different mindset in which we need to confront reality without conveying a sense of doom or futility, even when the events of the day are apparently awful.
Both in military science and American football, we are aware that in every instance where an offensive is launched in which the opponent makes seemingly big gains, they will also expose a weakness of their own in their formation and execution which can be exploited in the future. Every strategic move simultaneously exposes a potentially open flank, which those who are observant can effectively turn against them. In such circumstances it is possible to make field-level and command decisions which are improvised and innovative, therefore unexpected. The Prussian military had a name for this concept called "Auftragstaktik." (A mission in which outcomes are primary, rather than the method by which they are accomplished)
Therefore, in light of this Carnival geek sideshow held by the GOP leadership yesterday, some important questions are presented in need of answering.
1) What is the GOP becoming in the aftermath of mid-terms?
2) What are they actually doing, versus what they and we think they are doing?
3) What might they do next?
4) What Is their "end game," and by implication their greatest weakness?"
5) What can we do to outflank them and turn their actions against them?
6) What are our strategic political objectives and what are our common goals?
For purposes of morale and helping to internalize an appropriate gestalt which serves us well going forward, I'll begin with the question which I believe is most central in this context today, question number 4, and work around that.
The end game of the GOP is currently inseparable from that of MAGA, "The Federalist Society," the American Legislative Exchange Council, (ALEC) and the evangelical "Dominionist" cults, worshipping their "Seven Mountains" of piled up anti-Christian manure, which have gained massive traction in the context of covid. And lest we forget, there is the deranged Presidency and endless revenge tour of Donald Trump, the anointed head zookeeper of his very own political "Monkey Island."
With or without Trump, their "end game" is to destroy what they term "the administrative state." Their policies are designed to eliminate the American constitutional system as it was revived and expanded during the presidencies of Abraham Lincoln and later Franklin Roosevelt, to replace it with a reincarnated version of the Southern Confederacy, no longer limited to the Southern states alone. (The real GOP blueprint for their own "replacement theory") They are at war with the Federal government and its most essential functions, and are every bit as fanatical as were our history's worst anti-government terrorists, from Aaron Burr, to Jefferson Davis, to the original "America First." They are the modern political equivalent of Tim McVeigh, looking for the best place to park their trucks which are loaded with explosive lies, disinformation, and seditious criminal conspiracies.
As most observers are aware, their actual plan has been in the making for more than 50 years. It's goal is to create a one-party theocratic dictatorship, with an economy based on looting, asset stripping, unbridled speculation and slave labor. They want a legal and regulatory system which enhances corporate theft and reckless gambling which they call "free markets," while at the same time ripping out the most important constitutional protections for Americans to "life, liberty and happiness," all in the name of their perverse notion of "religious freedom." They intend to persecute and suppress dissent, dismantle the social safety net through policies rooted in social darwinism, ie; Nazi-style "getting rid of the dead wood." They intend to lock in a national culture of stupidity, superstition, institutional racism and scientific ignorance by looting and destroying our public school systems. (which were originally intended as the bedrock of America's development since its inception) And not least, they are united by their shared committment to restoring white supremacy, using their phoney culture wars to spread the myth of "white heterosexual male victimhood," in a violent reactionary surge against the 20th Century's gains in civil rights and equal opportunity for women.
The entirety of their long game has from the beginning been centered on two central pillars. First, their plan for gaining the political power to pack the Federal Courts at every level with Federalist Society judges, who would be their legal accomplices in recreating this "New Confederacy." Second, their decades long efforts to concentrate the majority of America's wealth in the hands of a powerful right-wing grouping of white fascist billionaires, who would buy up the politicians and media conglomerates needed to consolidate this financial and political control.
And herein lies both their current strength, and yet their greatest weakness. Their "long game" is doomed, and they know it, which is why their current behavior resembles that of wounded crazed animals.
Why is this the case? Because their multi-generational plan for all of this has lost them virtually the entirety of the younger generation, especially that which turned out in large numbers earlier this month. Generation Z for the most part sees the GOP as their personal enemies, an ongoing threat to their futures, and representing the worst of their parents generation. There is no "long game" which can succeed without the youth.
Additionally, their plan for a "white-power" led "America First" is likewise doomed by the sheer demographic reality that most of our modern world consists of diverse peoples and POC's, and that in the 21st Century era of technological progress, national borders are increasingly superfluous. This is why they scream obsessively about Biden's open border, espouse the Hitler-modeled "replacement theory," and advocate for the government model of Victor Orban's fascist Hungary, whose closed border policy is meant, in his words, to curtail "race-mixing."
So, in effect, the end game of the GOP is centered upon their attempts to salvage a dying system, which in every aspect is unsustainable. They think they have a long game, but in reality, it is a radical short term tear-down to bring about a vast array of "get rich quick" schemes for themselves, which in fact will ultimately go the way of Enron, Long Term Capital Management and now FTX. They are trying to blow bubbles which will float forever. But the laws of physics tell us that bubbles always pop.
And incredulously, up until recently this plan for a slaveowners and shareholders utopia centers around a cult of personality figure, himself mentally unstable, legally trapped, diminishing in stature among his own base, and who is engaged in a public spectacle of self-immolation, Donald Trump.
This fundamental reality is their weakness and greatest quandary, which both infuriates and confounds them. It is why they are shifting toward increased violence. And ultimately, this is what defines them as the biggest of all losers in the tradition of their models, the Roman Empire, the British Empire, the Confederacy, Adolph Hitler's Third Reich, and Vladimir Putin's soon-to-be dead Russian Empire.
This is your strategic "big picture." It is vital to understand that we, ourselves, are gripped with fear and anxiety about the prospect of losing to an adversary that cannot possibly win. They are certainly doing a lot of damage and will continue to do so, but their strategy and plan is a sham, a house of cards. Once we internalize this concept, we can see the situation through new eyes and act accordingly.
Part 2 coming...how to outflank the enemy's war against President Biden.
