The New Secession Movement-- States Ending Mask Mandates, Pandemic Restrictions, and the Right to Vote

Governors such as Tate Reeves of Mississippi, Kay Ivey of Alabama, Abbott of Texas, Kristy Noem of South Dakota, Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, and others are currently spreading the 4th wave of the Pandemic with premature full openings and lifting of mask mandates. They are also spreading disinformation and lies. Several of them are legitimately stupider than a bag of hammers, the types of idealogues who believe that public health measures are just an excuse by "Big Government" to expand their control over people's lives. 

Reeves responded to President Biden's appeal to restore mask mandates with a Tweet, saying "you mean to tell me that because they have more cases in New York and New Jersey I'm supposed to shut down our State and give the government more control of our lives? No thanks Mr. President". Since I'm not a professional writer or candidate for office, I'll just say that I think President Biden is being too nice. 

This statement by Reeves and others of his ilk, my friends, is not simply the idiotic raving of a semi-literate Baboon, something lower on the cognitive scale than Forrest Gump's stupider evil twin, or like an escapee from the backwoods out of the cast of the movie "Deliverance".  It is in effect an act of secession. 

I'll try to make this short, because it makes me want to scream. Cases are rising everywhere where people know how to count. Only 16% of Americans are currently fully vaccinated. There are several new variants spreading rapidly here, including the UK B117 which spreads more rapidly through higher transmission rates, (airborn) is more infectious, is more deadly, and causing more serious illness and death among younger people. I'll also remind folks that we are in the year 2021, not 1842, and we live in the modern world of travel. People in New York and New Jersey are 3 hours away from the Governors Mansion in Mississippi. And I do believe that it is Americans that live in New York and New Jersey, they are not foreign countries, and given the fact that cases are rising nationally, it is not just those states.

Why is it then that these Governors are treating the public health protocols outlined by our leading experts as if it is a foreign invasion by a Communist Dictatorship who are out to destroy their "way of life"?

Well, because this is exactly their historic relationship to the US Federal government for as long as there has been a Federal government. In addition to being unreconstructed Confederates, they are now and have been States rights fanatics who are currently in a state of rebellion, and they invoke the same traditions which informed their practice and armed defense of chattel slavery over which we fought our Civil War. "Protecting Home and Hearthstone". 

Just like in the Confederate South, the "Red State" leaders play upon the backwardness of the majority of their political base, rooted in religious Fundamentalism, scientific ignorance, institutional racism, and a desire to lead an insulated simple life, protected from the rapidly changing and hostile modern world. 

Once again, these Governors are "opening up" their states for mass death, as they did last year, with superspreader events like Spring Break, full attendance at public events like College Sports and NASCAR, and full reopening of Bars and Restaurants, which epidemiological experts agree are at the top of the list of riskiest locations. Someone, for God's sake, should barge into their offices with a dictionary and explain the meaning of "variant". 

Put this picture together with what the GOP has done to Voting Rights in Georgia as their flagship campaign for reviving Jim Crow, step back, breathe, and look at it. This is a New Confederacy (not entirely a Southern phenomenon) of states leaving the Union, splitting it apart along the same old fault lines of yesteryear. 

As we know, this cultural virus has always been there. Donald Trump produced his own Confederate "variant" and let it out of the Lab. Call it DT1861. It is our deadliest disease. It is why many people are stupid enough to buy the Fox News lies that immigrants are spreading the covid virus thanks to Joe Biden. 

These actions regarding the Pandemic and Voting Rights are our modern day Fort Sumter. They intend to break up the Union, because they hate the Federal Government. They are still nostalgic for Slavery. They are a rebellion. They wave the flag, carry the Cross, and commit mass murder in the name of Jesus and their personal "freedom". 

Please, don't look at any of this as just dirty partisan politics. This is a descent into ungovernability and chaos that runs much deeper than just the issues of the Pandemic, which we were in the process of turning the corner on anyway. What you see these Governors doing is in fact a continuation of January 6. This is what it looks like. People better get behind nuking the fillibuster and passing HR 1. The clock is ticking.
