The Whistleblower who brought down Nixon

-You can't say anything about this because it will screw up our source and there's a real concern. Mitchell is the only one who knows about this and he feels strongly that we better not do anything because ... if we move on him, he'll go out and unload everything. He knows everything that's to be known in the FBI. He has access to absolutely everything.-- H. R. Haldeman to Richard Nixon
In 2005, former FBI Agent and Deputy Director, Mark Felt, made a death bed confession that he had been Bob Woodward's and the Washington Post's secret source, known as "Deep Throat", who had been leaking the details of the Watergate break in and coverup, which ultimately forced Nixon to resign. Like today's Whistleblower against Russian asset Donald Trump, he risked everything to expose the threat of executive abuse of power by a President. What's notable as a difference, is that Nixon abused his power by using US Government Agencies, like the FBI, IRS, and covert CIA operatives, to destroy his political adversaries before the 72 election. In the case of Russian asset Trump, he is using extortion against foreign governments to force them to use their government agencies to aid and assist his attempt to destroy his political rivals, an order of magnitude greater of illegality than the disgraced Nixon. Also noteworthy, the political leadership of the country, and the media, and the citizens, still had the integrity and respect for our Constitutional System that they would not tolerate attempts by some to "out" the source of the leaks, Mr. Felt. His identity would have gone to the grave with him had he not been persuaded by his daughter to set the record straight. Today, the rabid dogs leading the GOP, and the Right-Wing press under the control of British Subject Rupert Murdoch, have no such integrity or respect. And, the American people are far more susceptible to demagogery by populist media rageballs and phoney "Elmer Gantry" style Evangelists than in 72. This is why our situation today is far more dangerous than the Constitutional Crisis of Watergate.
