Trump's "Smoking Gun"-- Liz Cheney Announces Trove Of 800,000 Secret Service Texts From "On The Ground" on January 6 In Hand! What Are The Strategic Implications?
This is a "hot take" analysis by me, and subject to revision pending new information being made public. Buy for sure its as big a deal as it seems, and possibly the equivalent of the release of the unredacted Nixon White House tapes, which remember spelled his political end. The Twitter report from Frank Figliuzzi linked below on Cheney's announcement is brief, but rife with earth-shattering implications.
1. Obviously, because the communications are those of Trump's protection detail, they will directly involve Trump's actions, movements, orders, statements and communications from throughout that day. Likewise, they will involve those same related communications regarding VP Mike Pence.
2. Equally obvious is that these texts are likely incriminating, which is why they were wiped on orders from Trump and/or his proxies. Cheney's statement that SS agents "were not forthcoming" strengthens this argument, indicating that Trump's loyalists in that agency were complicit. This points right to Trump White House staffer and former Secret Service head Tony Ornato and those with whom he communicated during and after the coup attempt.
3. That President Biden and his team were aware of the possibility of complicity in the coup by Trump Secret Sevice officials who helped facilitate Trump's actions, or were witness to them, and made it a priority to immediately remove any such persons from the incoming President's and family's protection detail upon taking office. The question of why neither the White House or DOJ was all over this from the beginning, and chose to defer to the J6 Congressional committee on the matter appears to be a political decision to avoid the appearance of politicizing the DOJ or of taking reprisals against his predecessor.
4. If there was a disposition on the part of the Trump White House to facilitate a kidnapping or murder of VP Mike Pence in retaliation for not delaying the Electors certification, or to illegally detain him to prevent him from doing so, it would likely be indicated or referenced in these communications. That is, assuming they can be recovered forensically. One should not lose sight of the fact that the mob intent on hanging him came within 40 feet, and Pence's detail was in possession of the "football," the briefcase with our nuclear codes. Also, as we are aware, Pence refused to ride with the SS limo sent to pick him up by the White House, indicating he was wary of such a plot. Reports that Pence floated invoking the 25th Amendment against Trump in the aftermath (which he denies) should be considered in this light.
5. Based on previous reports, members of the White House staff including Meadows (who it appears is cooperating with Garland's Grand Jury on J6) were using "burner phones" to avoid a digital trail or electronic surveillance. This highlights the amateur hour "spy novel" tradecraft of those involved, who actually believed that their comms were untraceable, notwithstanding the fact that those on the other end may not have been "burners," mistakenly believing the texts of which were gone forever if wiped. The science of forensics as it applies to crime solving is itself based on the certainty that every crime leaves a trace, somewhere, and can be found. And this new trail leads right to the gathering of conspirators at the Willard Hotel which was the operational command center for the coup, including Bannon, Stone, and others. If these texts (or group texts) include communications from Trump or his proxies using a burner, that is potentially our smoking gun. This is why Stone said after the coup failed that they were all going to prison, and he and his team urgently asked for pardons.
6. This revelation by Cheney comes hours after Denver Riggelman divulged that a call to "someone" involved on the ground at the riot itself originated from the White House through their switchboard. Meaning, Trump or his proxies were in direct communication with someone involved in either the breach of the Capitol perimeter, the attempt to obstruct the electors certification on behalf of the phoney electors plot, or both. The White House would not have placed a direct call to the "QAnon Shaman" or the Pelosi podium thief to ask how their day was going.
7. It is safe to assume that each of these revelations were related in their timing and intent, and may have occured as a consequence of information sharing between the J6 Committee and the ongoing Grand Jury investigation, though the two investigations are running separately. This is why Cheney herself is the one breaking the story publicly on the SS texts, so as not to give MAGA spokesmen credibility in saying that these revelations are DOJ Grand Jury leaks which are politically motivated. However, in effect it is a pincer move in which the Committee and Grand Jury are closing in from all sides.
8. In this context, it is feasible that Trump's hasty non-golfing trip to DC last week was an emergency damage control meeting, possibly having been tipped off to the recovery of these deleted SS texts. They met on the golf course to be out of range of parabolic microphones which can listen in, and had their backs to observers cameras to avoid lip-reading. They were, in my view, conspiring on their next steps at containing the fallout from this.
9. Trump's possible knowledge of these text's recovery are, also in my opinion, a fair explanation for his recent next-level extreme escalation of violent rhetoric, veiled threats of civil war, open embrace of the terrorist QAnon cult, and pathetically desperate attempts to deflect attention to his Special Master case, the immigration crisis, and the MAGA culture war issues.
10. Implied by all of these impending revelations is that for reasons of national security, the safety of President Biden and his family, and the security of past and future Presidents, the entirety of the Secret Service system should be immediately and thoroughly overhauled.
To sum up, in my view it is a monumental blunder for anyone to conclude that such revelations mean that Trump is finished and the threat he represents somehow diminished or neutralized. Trump is not Nixon, and the GOP of MAGA is not even remotely the same as 1974. All of this occurs in the same week as the civil suit in New York, which also targets his precious criminal spawn, the Trump "children of the corn." He is more dangerous, and more capable than ever of destructive acts beyond any imaginable. He is backed into a corner, and due to the immense psychological hold he has on his supporters is likely to unleash a bloodbath in response. The question of whether our Federal law enforcement has the manpower and resources to counter this is an open question. This points ominously to the prospect of civil conflict, possibly timed for after the November election or around the swearing in of the new Congress in January.
Ask yourselves the question lurking in the back of your minds. If there is the much hoped for "blue wave" in November which results in clear majorities in both Houses, or the defeat of MAGA candidates for Governor, what do you think Trump and his chosen extremist candidates or incumbents will do, for example people like Douglas Mastriano, J.D. Vance, or Kari Lake, Sarah Palin, Abbott or DeSantis for that matter? Do you really think they will recognize their losses, fold up their tents and come back for another go in the next round of elections? Those who think that are not thinking at all. Only decisive margins of victory can prevent the unthinkable, and that is in our hands, no one else's.
You know what they will say, that their elections were stolen. You already suspect what they will do. Are we ready for this? These are the things I would be concerned with, rather than making popcorn and giving high fives with every new breaking revelation.
