My Comment on Heather Cox Richardson's Letter on "Originalism," SCOTUS, and Texas--
Factually this summary by HCR is accurate in terms of the spread of Originalism in the Court, and its progressions. However, it does not address the Elephant in the room.

The Court is dominated by an evil and heretical group of extreme Right Wing Catholic fundamentalists, an actual cult of fetus worshippers who believe that mankind is evil, born in Sin, and loses its innocence the moment it is born.
Their "legalism" and extreme "textualism" with respect to the US Constitution is rooted in a fanatical and twisted literalism with respect to the Christian Bible. Their legal philosophy is in fact a projection of their cult theology into the judicial realm, where they have distorted the role of the Court from the responsibility for jurisprudence to that of an Inquisition.
Originalism, textualism, the doctrine espoused by the Federalist Society (the deceptive name assigned to this cult for PR purposes) represents the point of commonality and shared mission with the extreme fundamentalist Protestant Evangelicals, which they perversely have termed "The Pro-Life Movement".
It is rooted in the opposite concept of our Founders. They believe that the Right to Life ends at birth, because it is a death cult. The political objective of this cult is to break up the United States and create a separate, White, male dominated fundamentalist Christian entity, politically modeled on the US Confederacy, but conceptually modeled on the Spanish Inquisition, whose purpose is to crush dissent and what they believe are the real heresies.
And the reality is that while this cult has been growing in strength for decades, it exploded in numbers in reaction to the election of Barack Obama in 2008, and became a modern reincarnation of the KKK, driven by racism, religious bigotry, and nativism.
And finally, a catalyst was added to weaponize this phenomena, to turn it into an actual rebellion against the Constitutional order which they claim to be trying to restore. That catalyst was Donald Trump. And the question you may be asking after this little rant is, "what's your point"? My point is, don't lose sight of the fact that Trump, the Evangelicals, the NRA, GOP, CPAC, the "Alt-Right" and other Right-Wing cults like QAnon have been bought and paid for assets of Russian Intelligence and Vladimir Putin since at least 2012.
In other words, the insanity we are watching unfold in the Court and the Red States may be homegrown, but like a Bioweapon, has been engineered and mutated artificially from the outside.
This cult, and it's controllers is what too many want to avoid talking about, because they have no idea how to fight it. You have to know what you are fighting to defeat it.
The revanchist and resurgent Russian Empire has intervened into our internal situation to spark a religious war in the US, to divide us and unleash chaos. This is what Empires do. The British orchestrated a religious war in India after being forced out after WWII, by pitting Muslims and Hindus against each other in order to break up the country through "Partition".
Putin, the geopolitical chess master has unleashed something similar here, taking advantage of many years of divisions, between class, ethnic, racial, religious and gender related issues, exploiting social inequities, with the goal of unleashing chaos. Secession of the Red States is his political objective. That is what is unfolding here.
It is a mistake to fixate narrowly on the Court, the State of Texas, or the one issue of Abortion.
To fight this effectively you have to start with the takeover and weaponization of the US religious and political Right Wing by Russia since Putin returned to the Russian Presidency in 2012. We are being tampered with from the outside. There is nothing "natural" about our rapid descent into irrationality and religious insanity.
Yes, it was there. But not like this.
