In the spirit of the great author Sinclair Lewis, the creator of the characters Elmer Gantry and Babbitt, I present the following-- America's religious Right Wing of all persuasions, particularly Evangelicals, hard right Catholics and Ultra-Orthodox Jews, have embraced Fascism, Insurrection, and the authoritarian model of Trump's GOP. This is an incontrovertible fact.  Why is this, one should ask? In part, because corrupt fundamentalist religious leaders do not think about the world as we wish to believe.  They think in terms of millennia in regard to their institutions, and the short term with respect to their personal ambitions. They reject Secular institutions and treat politics, government, and social movements as either a recruitment vehicle for their own ends,  or something which is seen as a threat, not as a means for doing the good or advancing society for all. It is 10 am on the morning of Monday, October 19, and you are just getting out of the shower. You open your Google News app and get your headline, "Five Truckbombs exploded in New York City. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people..." May 12, 2021 During the turbulent early "00's" when my wife Martha and I were full time political operators, we were knee deep in a national campaign to Impeach then Vice-President Dick Cheney. I personally raised more than a million dollars in contributions large and small to fund it, and travelled throughout the US on fundraising and organizing tours.  Former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark passed away at 93 years old this week. I had the opportunity to meet him once at a human rights event, and was tangentially involved in one of his several high profile cases, the details of which I will keep private. It was one of the cases that he drew huge criticism for taking, and I was one of the people who was part of a fundraising team which raised the money for his retainer, as it was an appeal of a Federal conviction which went eventually to the Supreme Court. (they wouldn't hear it)  People that I worked with knew him personally, and I heard a number of stories about him which displayed his real depth of character. Ironically, he was someone whose politics at times I deeply opposed, but I had nothing but respect for him. He went head to head with the racist tyrant FBI Director J. Aside from the fact that it drowns us in pessimism, deconstructs the political upheavals of the last several years, especially those in 2020, ignores the extraordinary organizing process that enabled Democrats to fight through layer upon layer of Voter suppression, intimidation, and disinformation to deliver States like Georgia which had been Red since always, it is largely devoid of any insights which might have come from frontline political organizing experience.   April 28, 2021 There have been some fairly gratuitous and bad faith attacks on Joe Biden coming from some loud voices in the Left/Progressive grouping in recent weeks. Several identify as formerly active Bernie Sanders promoters who years ago swore on a stack of "Little Red Books" that they would never support Joe Biden in any circumstances. This, notwithstanding the strong and thoughtful qualified support for Biden so far by Sanders himself and other Progressives such as AOC in the same timeframe.  I'll address this with a couple of things I post here in the next days.
