Josh Hawley "Comes Out" Of Hitler's Closet--
In this week's news, Josh Hawley dug up a completely fake quote from so-called "founding father" Patrick Henry, asserting that America was founded as an exclusively Christian nation, based on Christian doctrine. The quote came from a decades old Neo-Nazi publication, and Hawley posted it on July 4th.
Hawley wrote: “Patrick Henry: ‘It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.’”
So, to Hawley's resume, you can add Nazi to the long list of his skills and work experience.

This may seem like another message from "Captain Obvious" but there are a couple of other points worth making.
The Missouri GOP is insane by virtue of installing this lunatic. They are right up there with Florida and Texas, because they are a Christian nationalist hellhole. The extremist anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ+ charismatic Catholics are a bigger problem there than in most states. Also look at the broad support for disgraced Trump Jr. close pal, former Governor Eric Greitens' Senate primary campaign in 2022. (he lost to someone equally vile, Eric Schmitt) Greitens incited his supporters to literally shoot anti-Trump RINOS in a campaign video re-enactment of a Navy SEAL operation to breach their homes. There was more outrage against this from Republicans across the US outside of Missouri than from within.
The other point is just a historical reminder. Patrick Henry opposed the US Constitution. Therefore why be shocked that fascists, MAGAs, militia leaders, and all other sorts of extremist far right political cults would dredge up quotes from him, real or fake? Why be surprised that the fake patriots who quote him want a Constitutional convention to tear up the original document and return the US to the status of Patrick Henry's Confederate slave state of antebellum Virginia? Why the amazement that the same people who most often invoke Patrick Henry's most famous quote, "give me liberty or give me death" led the terrorist assault and fascist coup attempt to reinstall Trump "unconstitutionally" on January 6th?
For Christians like Hawley, the Bible itself is degraded into a tool of brainwashing and mind-control, which is why the Red States are eliminating history in favor of Bible studies. They turn their book into something like the "Neurolizer" pen used by the "Men In Black" to do a total memory wipe, not to teach its actual lessons.
I would say that the virtual absence of any media coverage of Hawley's fake quote, (except for London's Telegraph and Guardian) and where it came from, is not only a willfully destructive mainstream media policy, but the blame for it is on us more than anything. We accept and ccondone it when we decide to let it go. Until that changes, little else will.
