Some Random Thoughts From The Beach, Unfiltered:

On The Party Of "Freedom"--

The GOP, the self-described party of "freedom" now stands for expelling elected officials who protest, inspecting your child's genitals, banning books, tracking your daughter's periods, banning women from interstate travel for abortions or medical care and putting bounties on them if they do, banning sex education, banning the teaching of evolution in an attempt to retry the Scopes Monkey trial, banning contraception and interracial marriages, banning gay marriage, banning of vaccines, banning of medicines or treatment for Trans persons, banning classical or modern art which depicts the human form, shutting down companies who donate to support civil rights, forced deportations of refugees or migrants, overturning free and fair elections, making it illegal for men to wear makeup, banning drag shows, firing teachers who teach that slavery is bad, banning news services which criticize their Governors, banning voting if you have a conviction, and banning the prosecution of their party's Presidents who commit crimes, whether in or out of office. Maybe I left something out, so please feel free to add anything else they are banning, but I'm so tired of it all that I'm done for the day.

They say they are for freedom. They demand the freedom to ban everything they hate, including most of all, to ban you. I must say, that's a shitload of banning, shutting down, overturning, restricting and stopping of things coming from people who claim to espouse more freedom. That my friends is the hallmark of a gaslighting cult, in the purest of terms by definition.

Why then in the AF are people wasting their energy texting fucking numbers to websites and email boxes, and posting memes on Facebook and Twitter that three people will look at in totality if you are lucky? How is this for an idea, instead of doing something that makes us feel good, why not do something effective which might get us into some good trouble? If we just sit around "eating popcorn" we will just be putting in time until our next thrombosis, no? We should all be partnered up, outside someplace, where they are.

Presumably many folks here are active and doing real and effective things. If you intend to get others involved, it's best to know what your obstacles are, particularly with the acculturated habits and comfort zones of the people you are attempting to engage. They have been mostly scared, a little bit lazy, indifferent, or some combination of the above. Maybe they are ready for you now.

But, when it comes to the MAGAs in your life, the next time you run into one of these fucking idiots, remind them of what is inscribed on the metal gate over the entrance to the Auschwitz death camp. "Arbeit Macht Frei"  ("Work Makes You Free")

That is where the GOP's concept of "freedom" leads. Shove it in their faces, confront them with the pod persons that they've turned into. And be calm, maybe it will sink in later.

In the meantime, feel free to serenely and authoritatively rip them a new set of orifices between now and then. Right now, their hatred is stronger than your love, so they need the toughest love you can give them. We need people to do what they did when George Floyd was murdered, but we might leave out the blowing up of ATMs this time. Rage won't get us anywhere.  We need people out in the streets in the millions, which is an organizing job.

Any attempt we make to intervene with MAGAs might fall on empty ears, (or skulls, for that matter) but at least you'll know you tried, did your best to pull them from their Rabbit hole, and that you care. But don't be nice to fascists, even if it's your uncle, your brother or sister, or best friend. If you don't change them, then the person they used to be is lost to you forever. But the impulse that we have to just "let it go" in the belief that "its not worth it because nobody changes" is what will kill us. Even if they don't change, our internalized cynicism and impotent rage will poison us for the people we meet later who might change,  or be moved by a little bit of optimistic fighting spirit. Giving up on people is giving up on ourselves.

A few things to keep in mind maybe as things unfold.
