The "Other Reasons" Trump Has To Run--
A Reply To A Friend Who Thinks Trump Will Not Run Due To Age--
________he has to run, if only from a sheer ego standpoint. Plus he sees it as his legal shield, since the DOJ has a long standing policy of not indicting a Presidential candidate before an election in order to not appear politicized. More than anything, he needs the campaign fundraising machinery to generate the money for his legal defense fund. (Technically separate accounts, but same contributors)
His greed, ego, desperation to survive, his race hatred and rage have already made his decision for him. He needs the enraged and ecstatic audiences in front of him to be the resonator for his narcissism. The people who know him best, like Mary Trump, his biographers, people close to him, all agree that he is running. Most of us are scared of what will happen then, and with good reason, so we are trying to wish him out of existence. That's not going to work. What might work is us getting ourselves organized and mobilizing as if our lives depend on it, because they do.
And The "Other Reason"...
Another form of liberal media delusion is the recurring fairy stories detailing the various reasons to believe Trump will not run. This piece is an addendum to my reply to a comment on my post last week, in which I spelled out why this is pure fantasy, borne of fear and denial. And if history teaches anything, it is that pooping in your pants is no way to fight fascism.
Lest we forget, there are many people now either under investigation or indictment like Steve Bannon, Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, John Eastman,, Peter Navarro, Roger Stone, and Congressmen who were involved in planning January 6th. They know how they broke the law, and Trump as well. They could send him to jail with what they know.
Additionally, for those who like myself actually listen to what he says, his speeches are on one theme. Revenge. His preoccupation is to destroy his opponents and those who were disloyal, while rewarding friends and family. He has been inciting violence, race war, division and anti-government extremism in every appearance. He put out a virtual "hit" on his former Defense Secretary Mark Esper through his and Steve Bannon's statements last week.
He is and has been demanding that his most loyal followers do illegal things on his behalf, like any successful Mafia boss, delegating the jobs through subordinates using coded language.
He has a dilemma. How to keep those already implicated in crimes from ratting him out, and how to get his cultists to break the law for him in the future. None of this works without the power to issue Presidential pardons.
Without the pardoning power, he has no safety net to offer in exchange as part of his transactional deal making with his acolytes. He has no way to guarantee their survival if they risk themselves for him. They might roll over on him, or decide he's not worth the risk. All along, he has been telling his henchman "do this for me, and don't worry about the Feds, when I get back in I'll pardon everyone who is still loyal".
The promise of Presidential pardons for their crimes is only real to them if he is running, and he has the prospect of getting back to power.
So yes, he needs the financial grift. He needs money for lawyers. He needs the adrenaline rush of crowds and political violence from his base. But without the pardon power he has nothing.
That is why he has to run.
