On The Subject Of Mark Esper's Book-- What He Knew, What He Actually Did, And When--
There is a line going around that Mark Esper withheld his knowledge regarding Trump's intentions, along with his illegal and unconstitutional proposals and actions, and that Esper held it back in order to make money later with a book.
Let me say right here that this is absolute garbage, worse than bullshit. It is the product of impotent, misdirected rage and populist knee jerk reaction. It also happens to not be real. And further, the publishing of his book just made him an assassination target by Trump's heavily armed followers, to speak bluntly. Why don't some of you guys try writing a book exposing Trump, see what it does to your life, and how much you'll enjoy the money you make from it.
I addressed this in a comment on Heather's letter today. It will piss some people off but I couldn't care less. I know what I'm talking about. Here is my comment.
["There is a backstory regarding Esper about which there has been only cursory news coverage, and which should be taken into consideration. Trump wanted to declare Martial Law on June 2, 2020, also known as "Bunker Day", the day before Trump's insane Bible photo op. Trump wanted to cancel or postpone the November election. He talked about it. Using the US Military domestically against his publicly arrayed opposition was on the table, that day. He asked Esper, "why can't we just shoot them"?
Esper and JCS Chair General Milley combined to prevent Trump from invoking the 1807 Act. Most people who comment on the news as an observer have no idea how close we were to January 6th happening in June, meaning a flat out Coup, using the military during a contrived "state of emergency", a Reichstag Fire type event.
Esper continued trying to function as a firebreak to reign in this lunatic until he was fired in October. I wrote four articles June through September warning that when Esper was fired, that was the tripwire which would begin Trump's mobilization to overturn the election, which meant purging those who would stand in his way of using the Army. He wanted to fire Milley, but the Pentagon would have mobilized against it, and he couldn't
So, the reason Esper did not speak out, is not because he was saving what he knew to make money off of a book. Those who believe this are way off. The reason was that he would have had to resign. And reality is that Trump had just promoted an absolute psycho, Lt. General Anthony Tata to a Pentagon leadership position, with Trump intending to sack Esper and make Tata either Defense Secretary or Chair of the JCS. Tata was next man up if Esper had been forced out then, and is as bad or worse than Michael Flynn. Trump tried to promote him again with a recess appointment, but he was such an unstable freak, even the GOP committee chair wouldn't let the nomination go through.. For those interested, I have an archive on him.
If Esper had spoken out, he would have been fired or forced to resign, putting a serious National security risk in his place. That's the reason for his silence. Trump wanted to put Esper on trial for Treason, but settled for firing him. Shortly thereafter on October 21 Milley issued a statement saying that the military has no role in determining the outcome of elections. This was preceeded by a published ad signed by all living former Secretaries of Defense of both parties saying the same thing, an ad which was organized by Liz Cheney and her father Dick, principally. It was during the unfolding events of January 6th that General Milley met with the military command to ask them to take loyalty oaths to the Constitution, and be prepared to refuse Trump's orders, (meaning to not bypass Milley in the chain of command) whether on martial law, attacking China or Iran. Milley explicitly warned of a "Reichstag Fire" fascist coup.
It's easy to hate them all. Its easy to go on a rant when you are pissed off. That's fine, just get your facts straight. Esper is a jerk for ever agreeing to work for Trump. But the fact is, a handful of people on the inside acted in secret to prevent the unthinkable from happening. Esper was one of them. I can back up all of this."]
