Do Not Speak To Me Of Peace In A Time Of War--
For the record, I am not specifically "anti-war" only in a generic sense of having myself worked for 40 years to help nations avoid it. As the great Greek philosopher Plato said, "only the dead have seen the end of war". I reject pacifism and passivity in the face of unmitigated evil, and will use every principled and moral capability at my disposal to combat it.
I am at war with Trumpism
I am at war with racism, sexism, religious bigotry, and discrimination
I am at war with the legacy of the Southern Confederacy and It's monuments and symbols, which celebrate nothing other than Slavery and mass murder.
I am at war with Nazis, Neo-Nazis, anti-semites, white supremacists, and the domestic terrorists who espouse their views. I want them disarmed and arrested, with use of force by Law Enforcement if needed.
I am at war with Corporations that exploit and steal from their employees, and create income inequality. The same corporations which fund the far right think tanks to defend their right to pollute, and the PACs and Mega donors like ALEC, who are ramming through fascist legislation in every area of policy at the State level.
I am at war with the Mega-Churches, which pervert Christianity, brainwash their members to support book banning, amass vast wealth and property by manipulating their congregations, and would be standing in line to flog and crucify Christ today as a "woke Leftist" were he to make his "Second Coming" to go out and preach the Gospel in America.
I am at war with the mindless passivity of those phone and internet addicted Millenials who are more preoccupied with their body images and gaming than whether they will have food or be free to vote, and who watch with distracted indifference as their futures are trashed by fascists, while their thumbs are busy texting away about nothing.
I am at war with the cynical and morally repugnant Boomers and pseudo academic Progressives who gleefully pontificate about "the end of Capitalism" and how the US deserves its economic collapse and Pandemic because of all of America's crimes in past history. These are the people who read about mass death due to the Pandemic in the Red States and say "see, this is Karma, Darwin is doing the job for us".
I'm at war with the deconstructed perversion of the First Amendment, which gives free reign to the fascist propaganda network Fox News to lie, fabricate, advocate treason, incite violence, validate racism, and literally recruit a nationwide private Army of right-wing terrorists. If that is press freedom, I am out to destroy it, with prejudice.
I'm at war with the naivete and stupidity of those who in the face of this evil exclaim, "can't we all just get along, can we please stop all of this divisiveness"? We have a fascist insurrection led by a madman, whose armaments are of greater number than any standing army on Earth. They are destroying our government, plotting to overthrow our government, are arming for a race war, stealing your right to vote, empowering Evangelical Autocrats to pass laws to pay vigilantes to hunt you if you don't adopt their religious views, and you say, "can't we have unity with them"? Yeah, I'm at war with the peacemakers too, who espouse bipartisanship and unity with this... thing.
Frankly, the kind of war I'm advocating is a different kind of war, one which is grounded in ideas and principles. It is a war of ideas against evil ideas, not against the people who have been taken over by them. Somehow these victims need to be liberated from their insanity and brought back from the moral abyss.
Those who refuse to acknowledge that this is a war are people who have mostly not yet been affected by it personally, or who are simply too frightened to engage. And that is certainly their perogative. Not everyone wants to be a warrior, and most are so fearful of what this war will look like that they prefer to believe it hasn't started yet, or that we can somehow "keep the peace," so to speak by doing literally nothing.
The sooner we come to grips with the reality that the war was already started, BY THEM, and that they are coming for us just as surely as Putin has intended to spill blood in Ukraine, then we'll understand the utter folly of the banalized concept of peace we have come to adopt in our popular culture.
If we really believe in the power of love to overcome hate, we need to go to war for love's sake. It is an act of mercy to chastise an evil doer. (Augustine) Therefore, let us do the merciful thing, and drop all of this talk about "peace". It's time to put our armor on.
