Will Merrick Garland "Drop The Hammer"?



Merrick Garland's testimony yesterday has generated some optimism that he might go after the leadership of the Insurrection. I'm not here to throw cold water on that idea, because I don't rule it out. 

However, if Trump himself is charged with anything less than Sedition Conspiracy I am concerned that it will not work. If, as was alluded to by Liz Cheney and Benny Thompson, the Committee is considering recommending charges be brought for "dereliction of duty" due to his three hour delay in calling off the riot, I believe it is an ineffective "side door" approach which avoids the greater crime committed. Was Adolf Hitler "derelict in his duties" when he refused to order his 1923 Munich followers to stop the Putsch? How can one be derelict in not stopping something when it was planned, organized, deliberate, intentional, and done as a conspiratorial effort with others? 

It is the equivalent of a case where a firefighter sets his neighbors home ablaze after an argument, then delays the arrival of the fire company to put it out. Do you charge him with obstructing the Fire Department, or arson? 

This approach by the House Select Committee, if they go this way, seems to me to be grasping at straws, or trying to get some charges, "any charges" made at the Federal level. They are missing what is essential. We are not simply punishing the perpetrators of January 6th. We are supposedly trying to deter future attempts at replicating January 6th elsewhere. Any prosecution of Trump should be in the spirit of a War Crimes tribunal, designed to both bring out the full horror, and prosecute to the full extent of the law for present and future generations. 

The question remains, will Merrick Garland be our modern day Justice Robert Jackson, will he listen to his own conscience, or the advice of DOJ careerists who are telling him to "keep it simple"? That is still our big unknown.

Milton Friedman- The Man Who Revived Fascist Economics, and Called It "Freedom".

  You may have heard the name before, as he was featured in a PBS Series, titled "Free To Choose", also the title of his most famous and misnamed book. He was a prolific author, and widely publicized by Conservative News Media and Magazines, especially by the followers of William F. Buckley. In fact, Milton Friedman is the current top economic advisor to the so-called "movement conservatives", from Nixon to Reagan, to Newt Gingrich and Trumpworld,  and is still to this day the main architect of the GOP approach to dealing with the present economic crisis, though he has been keeping a low profile. How Do You Know If What You Are Reading Is True Or Useful? - A One Year Old Facebook Post

 How do we know whether what we are reading is true, or for that matter useful? There are many journalists in the US today who are not only excellent writers, but are just good people. They are well informed, have the best intentions and are highly professional.  I have to force myself to write, and it comes with great difficulty because I am blocked, and had little journalistic training. Without an editor I feel lost, and feel as though I want to rewrite everything or throw it out after I read it. Reading books and articles is my favorite hobby, and when I'm doing that I am in my happy place.  As of now I have 30 News and Magazine sites bookmarked and I read them everyday as a routine. I usually read anywhere from 2-10 articles in each, depending upon what newsworthy events are breaking that day. Plus I have a number of books on history that I have going at any one time.
