Written One Year Ago- Bipartisanship and Unity With That? My Desperate Efforts To Get Through To The Biden Transition Team
The Greater Significance of Pascrell's Proposal--
Congressman Bill Pascrell from New Jersey has invoked the 14th Amendment in calling for House Speaker Pelosi to refuse to seat 126 Congressmen for their Seditious attack on the election. You've seen this in the news.
To me, more interesting than the proposal itself, whether its workable, a viable option, whether or not Pelosi would do it, is the extraordinary response the proposal has received from Democrats and other concerned people.
The comments on Facebook articles have been numerous, passionate, educated, remoralizing, inspired and have filled a void in the overall response to all of these attacks on our constitutional system.
As I have stated before, the Biden campaign, and the transition team has done and said virtually nothing in response to these attacks, other than to litigate, and try to proceed with the transition. This mirrors what I believe was a lack of combativeness by Biden himself during the campaign, and their attempts to "mainstream" Kamala Harris, in a lame attempt to defensively fend off the charge of being "radical leftist Socialists", and appeal to a presumed group of "Trump moderates", who really don't exist.
Reality is that a majority of Americans justifiably despise and fear what Trump's GOP represents, with his enraged White Christian Nationalist base of deluded religious fanatics. They see it as authoritarian, seditious, violent, secessionist, and now treasonous. We have been waiting, hoping for some signs of fight from the Democratic leadership while Trump and his Fascist GOP allies have run roughshod over the majority of Americans for the last four years, using control of the Senate and courts to cover up Trump's crimes, ram through Judicial nominees, stack Federal agencies with corrupt cronies as appointees, ram through insane executive orders, block desperately needed covid relief, suppress the Democratic vote, etc.
Finally, someone has issued a call to restore the rule of law, and make an example of these traitors, and people are exhultantly rallying around Pascrell's initiative. "Finally, someone is standing up and fighting" is what goes through our minds on hearing of this.
This is crucial, and it is vitally important that Biden/Harris not be tone deaf in regard to their own base on this matter. Biden is preaching unity and Bi-Partisanship with a Party which is seceeding from the Union. What Trump is doing since the election is the equivalent of James Buchanan emptying out the Southern Federal Armories to arm the Confederacy on the eve of the Ft. Sumter attack.
People will say, "Joe has to try to build bridges, make an attempt to bring the country back together". Seriously, who thinks the GOP is in any way acting like they are interested in that? There's a small group, the people who organized the covid Bill compromise who appear interested. That deal is DOA, because the GOP leadership and majority are immoral.
So, the Pascrell proposal is a lightning rod for the actual serious, militant opposition to Trump which has been there all along, which elected Biden, which has been otherwise neglected and been told to be patient, wait, and look forward to the first 100 days. The new Administration, however, continues to bring Lawyers to a gunfight, and unless they listen to the people and change their demeanor, and start really fighting, they will be overwhelmed by events which they don't want to see coming. I hope I am wrong, but that is how I see it.
