The Truth Which Must Be Told About Our Dear Ally, Hillary Clinton, And Why She Lost

Chauncey Devega is one of my favorite writers, I follow him on FB and I support his Blog. He writes for Salon and has at times sounded like "a lone voice in the wilderness" in calling out the mainstream media for underplaying the Trump Fascist GOP threat to Democracy.

He wrote a piece today on Hillary Clinton as a plug for his Salon article on her. She is obviously a recipient of a huge pile of hatred and rage from the neo-fascist/conservative right wing.

But, there is more to it, so I felt the need to comment on Chauncey's post. We are having a dialogue, which means speaking our minds truthfully to address reality out of legitimate concern, not oneupsmanship, or intellectual vanity. We are trying to solve some big problems, which means not holding back.

This was my comment--

As someone mentioned here earlier, not all of the anger or ambivalence towards Hillary comes from the racist "White Right" or sexists and Christian Fundies. She antagonized Progressives during the campaign by her cutthroat approach to winning the nomination from Sanders that led to Bernie endorsing her late in the game, and with little enthusiasm.

She and Bill denounced BLM in an appearance in Philadelphia, shocking her largely Black audience. And to be truthful, she made the political mistake in her campaign of stiff-arming Labor, Farmers, and other traditional Blue-collar Democratic constituencies. But much of the anger toward Hillary was in actuality anger toward "The Clinton's", as a team. They are looked at as a team, which may not be fair to her, but it is true. And much of the flack she received was residual anger toward her husband, who began the process of deconstructing the FDR, JFK, legacy in the Democratic Party.

Bill Clinton is a Manichean. (Look it up)  His policy of "triangulation" with the emerging Fascist GOP of Gingrich and Delay set the downfall of our political system into motion. I wrote a short piece on this a couple of days ago which is commentary on an excellent article by David Rothkopf of "The Daily Beast," which I urge people to read. I have no intention of demonizing Hillary or her husband. But as a student of Shakespeare, I think it necessary to have our eyes and minds open to see those turning points at which tragedies become inevitable, and unfold over time.

I also think it important to see that Hillary's defeat was largely self-inflicted, despite her best intentions to expose the evils of Trump. She ran an ill conceived and awful campaign otherwise, and failed to mobilize the minority and Labor base of her own Party. And she dragged her husband's baggage with her everywhere she went. I'll defend her from the personal attacks of our common enemies, but that is all. Here is my Blog post from yesterday.
