"Slate" Writer William Saletan Gets It Right On Tucker Carlson, Then Fumbles The Ball Away
William Saletan of "Slate" puts together a nice overview of Tucker Carlson's performance in making himself a spokesman for Putin's Foreign Ministry. He stops short however of calling Carlson a "Russian agent", describing him as simply a nihilist and a cynic.
(Article linked here) --
That is partially true, but otherwise way off. Carlson is a Russian "agent of influence". Which means in effect, he is working for them as a volunteer.
What does Carlson gain? He is carving out a niche for himself as the future presidential candidate of the White Supremacy movement at some future time after Trump is gone from the scene. Carlson is in sync with America's neo-Nazis who are Putin's devotees. After all, Putin is dictator of the world's leading Caucasian nuclear armed superpower, who suppresses ethnic and religious minorities, murders his opponents and censors their Press. And Putin parades himself as an "anti-woke" Christian of the Orthodox variety. He is the full package, a true "Vladimir The Terrible".
There are people in the intelligence community who have the goods on Carlson. They have enough to refer it to the DOJ and start a FISA Court process. But they won't. The White House truly believes that if they ignore the January 6th Coup apparatus, including Trump and his inner circle, instead focusing on getting their program through and producing "good economic news" that the insurrection will wither on the vine. This utter lack of vision will result in unfathomable tragedy unless some group of people around the President asserts themselves and forces a change in direction.
They are afraid to go after the Trump apparatus directly, so they are slow walking a back door investigation by Congress on January 6th as an election strategy. They believe that revelations coming from the House Committee investigation will disable the GOP in 2022, and demolish Trump in 2024. That will not work. The White House wants plausible deniabilty in directly investigating Trump and his minions because they are afraid of provoking a civil war. That is reality.
That would be the same civil war which has already begun on January 6th. The White House and its nominal allies like William Saletan are still dancing around the issue, carefully parsing their language so as not to sound extreme, no matter how extreme the situation becomes. This is the problem I have with the so-called Media intelligentsia's opposition to Trumpism. They are good people, well intentioned, but are for the most part at heart moral cowards. They will not say or do those things which are needed, because they are trying to "keep their seats at the table" of the Establishment by sounding credible.
This is how Nations are lost.
