Permit Me, I Just Need To Vent For A Moment--

 


I think that considering the damage which Senator Joe "Munchkin" in is doing to the Nation, the administration, the Democratic Party, the People, and the future of our Democracy, we might dispense with the misnomer "moderate"  to describe him going forward. Unless we are clarifying the term thusly, such as moderately corrupt, moderately egotistical, moderately greedy, moderately indifferent to poverty, moderately power hungry, moderately a corporate shill, and moderately preoccupied with enriching his family at the expense of our environment. Yes, in that sense moderate. 

Manchin is like the guy on the Titanic arguing we should only use half the lifeboats because it will be too costly to replace them for future voyages. He is ideologically blind and uneducated on the fundamentals of economic development. But the worst part is that his obstructionism is so watering down the administration's program that it is having two immediately destructive effects. It is demoralizing the Democratic base, and adding strength to the GOP strategy to block Biden on every front. Therefore he is clearing the pathway for a return to power of Trump and the GOP. 

Manchin's seeming attempt to bargain down the White House proposal from 3.5 trillion to 1.75 trillion is a deception. Manchin's price point is zero, as he personally told Bernie Sanders in an argument a month ago. He actually said, "I'd be comfortable with zero". That is why he picked the one aspect of the BBB which the President is most passionately committed to, the extension of the Child Tax Credit, and like a Soviet UN Ambassador, banged his shoe and shouted "Nyet". His purpose is to obstruct, sabotage, and antagonize. He is a tool of the Billionaire Right Wing. 1.75 billion is not his number. Zero is his number. 

My hope is that the President took him to the woodshed in their video meeting. Reportedly they clashed over the child tax credit among other things. I'm hoping that Manchin's explosion of rage at the reporters he cursed out yesterday means that he is really feeling the heat. We need grassroots organizing to turn it up higher. There is only so much the President can do behind closed doors. We need to weigh in.

Milton Friedman- The Man Who Revived Fascist Economics, and Called It "Freedom".

  You may have heard the name before, as he was featured in a PBS Series, titled "Free To Choose", also the title of his most famous and misnamed book. He was a prolific author, and widely publicized by Conservative News Media and Magazines, especially by the followers of William F. Buckley. In fact, Milton Friedman is the current top economic advisor to the so-called "movement conservatives", from Nixon to Reagan, to Newt Gingrich and Trumpworld,  and is still to this day the main architect of the GOP approach to dealing with the present economic crisis, though he has been keeping a low profile. How Do You Know If What You Are Reading Is True Or Useful? - A One Year Old Facebook Post

 How do we know whether what we are reading is true, or for that matter useful? There are many journalists in the US today who are not only excellent writers, but are just good people. They are well informed, have the best intentions and are highly professional.  I have to force myself to write, and it comes with great difficulty because I am blocked, and had little journalistic training. Without an editor I feel lost, and feel as though I want to rewrite everything or throw it out after I read it. Reading books and articles is my favorite hobby, and when I'm doing that I am in my happy place.  As of now I have 30 News and Magazine sites bookmarked and I read them everyday as a routine. I usually read anywhere from 2-10 articles in each, depending upon what newsworthy events are breaking that day. Plus I have a number of books on history that I have going at any one time.
