The useful article by Wajahat Ali of the "Daily Beast" linked below outlines in very concise form the literal insanity and craven capitulation of the GOP to the most violent and sick aspects of Trumpism.
Nothing presented is new here, but if you are in need of talking points to confront anyone with, either associates or family who still identify as "Republican", this is a good thing to shove down their throats. (Not entirely a metaphor for me)
This is why I, in my not so subtle way, have been insisting that the age of traditional politics in America is dead. We very well might have already had our last free election. Therefore, it is time to begin thinking ahead about "resistance", instead of campaigns. Why resistance? Answer that for yourselves by making a list of all of those things which the 95% of us in the lower income brackets depend upon to live, which will be dismantled and gone when the GOP reassumes its majority and Trumpism retakes the White House. It's a long list.
The GOP now embodies in full the distilled essence of the evil, narcissistic, and fascist outlook of Trump himself. And I have to say that if there has been a consistent line of emphasis by myself in writing here over the last five years, it has been that the majority of Americans have grossly underestimated Trump's capacity for evil intent, destruction and division. This is why people are still shocked by the things which he and his followers say and do. People see and hear what they want, and in general have not wanted to see this.
The two most important factors in this resistance will be the youth, and the US Military leadership. What they decide to do going forward will determine whether the US has a future or not, in my view. That is not to say that we civilian middle aged and older folks don't matter, we do. It is however a matter of power, and the greatest power resides with those whose orientation is most strongly rooted in protecting and building for our future. Many older folks who are concerned and observing these events are unfortunately "mailing it in" when it comes to doing things actively. "Keyboard warriors" will not succeed in effectively combatting Trumpism without a mass movement of "people power" in the streets.
Some might see this as me expressing pessimism, or "surrendering". Well, who among us now has a plan to defeat Trumpism through electoral campaigns, in light of their success in locking in vote theft through gerrymandering and voter restriction laws? Who sees any daylight there?
However others see it, this evil force is not abating or going away, it is gathering force. And I'm not going away either. Therefore I might suggest at this point that unless we are making a serious effort to engage with, educate, and actively recruit young people, we are wasting our time. Think about it.
