"Ain't No Hidin' Place Down Here"-- My Comments on Salon's Chauncey Devega Interview With Anonymous, Miles Taylor
"Anonymous", the author of the New York Times exposés of the insanity and dysfunction of the Trump White House, aka Miles Taylor, gives a stark and brutally honest assessment in his Salon interview with Chauncey DeVega.
Some of it is clear in terms of how predictable January 6th was. And that the next phase is surely coming. But the rest of it is gut wrenching. He, like other "MAGA defectors" is under constant death threat, attacks and harassment, and suffers PTSD. Also targeted are anyone with the misfortune of ending up on Trump's political "hit list". Before you post memes on the cowardice of Republicans, put yourselves in their shoes.
It should be understood that Trump has unleashed the demon of unmitigated violence and the threat of violence into our political life. Legal decisions throughout Trumpworld by fascist Judges legitimizing political violence are exacerbating it, in conjunction with NRA Yahoos legislating a new Wild West by allowing psychopaths and vigilantes to open carry in Walmart.
I believe it is important to not be defensive and to take a militant stand against this. Don't tolerate "bothsidesism" or "whataboutism". If anyone gives you any crap, just ask them, how many Trump loyalists have had to go into virtual lockdown security, or been forced to move from their homes as has Miles Taylor and others who defied Trump? The violence is coming from one side only, and is spreading like Cancer. That is unless you equate episodic destruction of property by protesters with loss of life and serious injury, which is the position of the idiotic so-called "pro-lifers."
There are some folks out there who read everything I write, and agree, but won't click "like" or share it. They are nervous about their friends, fellow employees, employers, and customers seeing it on Facebook. I'm not unsympathetic with those folks, as they aren't ready yet to step forward.
But they will. The violence is avoidable for the moment but not for long. It will at some point directly affect everyone, everywhere. Don't kid yourselves.
I'm reminded of a story about a German Jewish couple having serious discussions of fleeing the country in 1932 after Hitler's Nazis won an electoral plurality.
The husband said, "we have to leave, now". "But darling, said his wife, we can't just pick up and leave, everything we have is here, our family, business, life savings...where in God's name would we go where we could live in peace and be safe"? The husband said "I've been thinking about that", and pulled out a World Map, opening it up. "You see Hon, I found this little island, totally quiet and isolated, in a serene setting here in the South Pacific...it's called Guadalcanal".
Ain't no hidin' place down here.
