"Who is Liz Cheney, Really"?

During the turbulent early "00's" when my wife Martha and I were full time political operators, we were knee deep in a national campaign to Impeach then Vice-President Dick Cheney. I personally raised more than a million dollars in contributions large and small to fund it, and travelled throughout the US on fundraising and organizing tours. Martha was out in public organizing large numbers of people for the same thing. 

You might remember that the context was the extreme and lawless attack on the US Constitution by the "Cheney-Bush Administration" (note the order)  in the aftermath of 9-11. There were the overt fabrications of Intelligence to blame Iraq and Sadaam Hussein for the attacks, false claims of Iraqi WMD, fake evidence of Yellow Cake and Aluminum Tubes, supposed secret meetings between Iraqi Intelligence and 9-11 hijacker Muhammad Atta beforehand. There were attempts to force CIA to sign off on fabricated Intel, and corrupted Cheney sources like "Curveball", whose lies were fed to a manipulated Colin Powell for his speech at the UN in support of a war resolution. 

There was Guantanomo, Abu Ghraib, asassinations by Blackwater mercenaries, renditioning, torture camps and Black sites for waterboarding and worse. There was the beginning of the extreme "surveillance State" under the Patriot Act in which anyone who was suspected of opposing the administration was tracked and gone after as "helping the terrorists win".  Not even a high level NOC agent at the CIA, Valerie Plame had protection when Cheney's COS Lewis Libby (pardoned by Trump) outed her to retaliate against her husband, Joe Wilson (Who we worked with) for exposing the Niger Yellow Cake fraud. 

In short, there is no one I can think of who did more to undermine the "Rule of Law" than Dick Cheney up until today. That is why we coined him the nickname, "The Beastman". 

And now we have Liz Cheney "running on her sword" in the name of The Rule of Law to defend the one thing which her Father nearly destroyed.  What is this? 

Very simply, Liz Cheney is not a lone actor. She is not doing what she is to save the GOP. The GOP ceased to exist in January and February of 2020 when they decided to defend Trump from the first Impeachment. Liz Cheney is speaking on behalf of institutional power. It is not about politics, conscience, personality or ideological conflict. She speaks on behalf of the traditional and powerful influence of the US Military leadership at the Pentagon. 

This is the same Military leadership which outed Trump as a hater of US Soldiers who were wounded, captured or killed in the bombshell "Atlantic" and Woodward revelations last September. They are the leaders who refused to carry out Trump's demands for invoking the 1807 Insurrection Act to shoot down protesting Americans in the street after the murder of George Floyd. They are the same institutional forces which delegated Liz Cheney to organize her Father and all living former Secretaries of Defense, Democrats and Republicans both, to publish an open letter renouncing any role for the US Military in the Election result, effectively preempting Trump's plans for an orchestrated Coup to hold onto power. 

In short, Liz Cheney is not a hero. She is a spokeswoman for institutional power that is mobilizing to save the United States Constitutional System from the Trump insurrectionists. She is not, as some sentimental types are covering this, "trying to redeem the soul of the Republican Party". She and those from whom she is taking direction are trying to prevent a Fascist takeover of the United States by a Nazi style cult. 

The important thing is to not go into "sports fan" mode and cheer for her from the sidelines. Personally, Liz Cheney is going to be crushed, and will be out of the Congress after the next election. 

The question on the table is what are we going to do to bring Joe Biden onto the battlefield of a war which he is currently trying to avoid. Joe Biden is treating Donald Trump in the same manner as a woman who finds a lump in her Breast while showering, who decides at that moment to ignore it, and hope it goes away. Unless some combination of forces in the Democratic Party base and leadership acts effectively soon to change this dynamic, then any sacrifices or acts of resistance by Liz Cheney and her allies will go for naught. 

I'm asserting a lot here, based on my experience and judgment. I've seen this movie before. I know what the German resistance to Hitler did behind the scenes to counteract him. I see in Liz Cheney the legacy of Germany's General Beck, and Col. Von Stauffenberg. Men who complied, remained loyal to Hitler and Germany,  waited too long to resist him, but made the ultimate sacrifice at the end to defend what remained of their Nation that was redeemable. 

Most of the time, folks look at these kinds of battles as "pairwise interaction" between individual personalities and ideologies, and try to understand it by grabbing News headlines. 

The actual reality is something different which exists in a non visible domain, which we only see as projections of shadows on the wall as described in Plato's allegory of the cave.

The only two things which allow us to know what is true or real is the will to discover it plus a serious committment to critical thinking. Everything I write is a provocation designed to encourage folks to take this up. Sometimes when something dramatic happens, it's easier to get people's attention. So here I am. 😉

Milton Friedman- The Man Who Revived Fascist Economics, and Called It "Freedom".

  You may have heard the name before, as he was featured in a PBS Series, titled "Free To Choose", also the title of his most famous and misnamed book. He was a prolific author, and widely publicized by Conservative News Media and Magazines, especially by the followers of William F. Buckley. In fact, Milton Friedman is the current top economic advisor to the so-called "movement conservatives", from Nixon to Reagan, to Newt Gingrich and Trumpworld,  and is still to this day the main architect of the GOP approach to dealing with the present economic crisis, though he has been keeping a low profile. A very low profile. In fact, six feet under. How Do You Know If What You Are Reading Is True Or Useful? - A One Year Old Facebook Post

 How do we know whether what we are reading is true, or for that matter useful? There are many journalists in the US today who are not only excellent writers, but are just good people. They are well informed, have the best intentions and are highly professional.  I have to force myself to write, and it comes with great difficulty because I am blocked, and had little journalistic training. Without an editor I feel lost, and feel as though I want to rewrite everything or throw it out after I read it. Reading books and articles is my favorite hobby, and when I'm doing that I am in my happy place.  As of now I have 30 News and Magazine sites bookmarked and I read them everyday as a routine. I usually read anywhere from 2-10 articles in each, depending upon what newsworthy events are breaking that day. Plus I have a number of books on history that I have going at any one time.
