Yes, it is fair and accurate to mention Trump, McConnell, Hitler, and the Nazis in the same sentence--
Some person following a News outlet which I also follow, "The Intellectualist", was furious at reading an interview with a Holocaust expert, who compared Mitch McConnell to the German Conservatives who partnered with Hitler and his Nazis in the 1930's. He claimed to oppose McConnell, but said bringing up Hitler and the Nazis was uncalled for. Several people jumped on him, saying "that's what Holocaust experts talk about", or "you don't get it".
So, I thought about it, and gave the guy the benefit of the doubt, and instead of treating him like a Troll and ripping his face off after he gaslighted a few commenters, I figured I would start a discussion, to give other people some "talking points" in case this comes up with others again. And I went after the central flawed axiom of his thinking with the following--
["_____... if you don't see the parallels between Trump and his base, including the White Supremacist paramilitaries, and Hitler's early rise, it's because you don't want to. The person being cited here is not comparing McConnell to Hitler. He is comparing him to the German Conservatives like von Papen, the Industrialists like Thyssen and Krupp, the Catholic Center Parties, land owners, farm interests and Prussian aristocrats, and lastly the military, who enabled Hitler, funded him, took loyalty oaths, and joined his insane drive to annihilate Jews, Labor, Socialists, free Press, other minorities and the Weimar Constitution itself, declaring them all "enemies of the people".
And yes, Trump has his base of anti-semites from the Neo Nazi Proud Boys, QAnon, and other racist Cults. Ironically, Hitler saw the Conservatives whom he used as excess baggage, and in the "Night of the Long Knives", wiped them out, (like former Chancellor, Kurt von Schleicher) or exiled them like von Papen, or banned their political parties and Press along with his settling of accounts with his rivals in the SA. They were expendable.
People forget that Hitler consolidated his Dictatorship, banned the Reichstag, and used his paramilitaries and secret police to run a reign of terror between 1933 and 1938. He got rid of undesirables quietly with forced euthanasia and private prison slave Labor. Kristallnacht was in 38. WW II started in 1939. The "Final Solution" against the Jews was launched at the Wansee Conference in 1942. In other words, it took Hitler between 5 and 9 years to consolidate the power to unleash his full horror show on mankind.
What I see, and I believe what the Holocaust expert quoted in this article sees, are the modern parallels with the beginnings of what the Nazis did from 1933-1938 as a historical model for Trump's war against our Constitution, his campaign of demonization of his opponents, the attempt to overthrow free elections and the Press, and to create a pseudo religious Cult of loyalty to himself. McConnell and his fellow enablers will go down in history with the '"Stahlhelm", the Prussian aristocracy, the Industrialists and the multitude of Right Wing Bavarian cretins in Germany who we rightly revile today for making Hitler possible. That is, if Trump accomplishes his goal of demolishing the USA as we know it, and replacing it with the Cult of violent Fascist rabble you will see in DC on Jan 6.
And if you want to know how old I am, (because you apparently think that's an issue) I'll just say my family goes back to the beginning."]
So, put that in your Pipe and smoke it!
