Tiannenmen Square, Beijing
Tiannenmen Square, Beijing
31 years ago today, an event broadcast around the World lit the fuse which within 5 months triggered the Collapse of the Soviet Warsaw Pact system. Courageous Chinese students, amassed in the central square in Beijing, were massacred by the Chinese Red Army, many of whom were crushed by Tanks. They were shot, tear gassed, and dispersed after weeks long demonstrations on behalf of Democratic Reforms. The picture below of the famous "Tank Man", singlehandedly holding up an Army Tank column, had an explosive impact worldwide, and inspired similar actions throughout Eastern Europe by movements resisting Communist Tyranny. Its noteworthy that China's government at the time, and the Soviet puppet Dictators of East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and the Baltic States were all saying the same thing about these movements that Donald Trump and his minions have been saying over the last 5 days. They branded it "Terrorist", and were prepared to crush it with military force. Where are those Communist leaders from Europe today?
One of the Chinese Students who was there in Tiannenmen when it happened came to the US at the invitation of Martha and my organization, and worked with us in our office in Pittsburgh for a month to brief our contacts and speak at a public meeting. I am honored to this this day to have known him. This was shortly before the collapse of Communism in Europe. He was inspired by what we and our supporters were doing, and at the same time shocked at the indifference of Americans in general, since we were the first and best Revolutionaries against tyranny. I'll leave you with that to think about.
