The key to a successful strategy is hitting the enemy on his weak flank, as opposed to head on collision. How does one efficiently hit the enemy where they are most vulnerable to get them to expose themselves and deliver a crushing defeat? Head on assaults mostly fail and produce high casualties, especially if you are outnumbered and have less firepower. . The most effective weapon for attacking a weak flank is surprise. Hit them where they ain't, where they don't expect to be hit. When you are enlisting someone to fight for something, you will run up against an obstacle in their minds at some point, in most cases. Fear, doubt, cynicism, family opposition, money concerns, even disagreements. Everyone you are talking to has these issues. The key question is how to get around someone's defensiveness to address the real person, as opposed to the flak which they throw out when you try to talk with them. Once you get behind the wall they throw up, you can help them understand, help them sort out their issues, and resolve on a course of action. How do you get past defensiveness and fear in the person you want to recruit? Jokes. Jokes are the equivalent of the element of surprise attack, hitting an open flank in Warfare. If you can make an effective political joke that is connected to what you are doing, and get someone to laugh at a problem, then they can see how to solve the problem. It also gives them confidence that you are on top of it, not a depressed victim. In order to defeat what Trump represents, humor is one of your most powerful weapons. Effective ridicule of your adversary liberates your comrades from paralyzing fear, and accesses the thinking part of their mind. This is why great Comics historically have tremendous power to bring social change.

If you engage the enemy with the idea that the purpose of any battle is to grow, and get stronger to come back for the next battle, then, even if you lose, and every fight you pick brings 5 or 10 or 50 new people on board, the enemy has lost by winning. That is what they don't expect, and have no strategy for controlling. It is like Judo, where a small person can use the weight, strength, and momentum of a larger person to throw them to the ground. Then, only our own timidity and shortsightedness can hold us back. Fight every battle with an eye toward the next one and don't get demoralized if you don't get the result you wanted right away.
