From May 25--How Hitler and His Quack Doctor's "Miracle Drug" Hooked Germany on Meth

You might have heard the story already. An authoritarian/populist head of State came to power with a minority vote, staked his leadership on scapegoating ethnic minorities and foreigners, demonizing previous national Democratic leaders, and promoting an economic system based on the idea that human beings are only commodities with a monetary value. Said head of State is a racist and a germaphobe. He believes certain categories of people are carriers of disease and need to be treated as pestilence and public health dangers. Better to help them die off faster than bring down the whole Nation economically to help them.

So, in midst a National Economic crisis and Social Breakdown, this "Leader" announces that Scientific and evidence based Medicine is corrupt and a danger, and should be rejected. Instead, he consults quack Doctors, and promotes quack cures for illnesses. He arranges for his Doctor, the cronies of his inner circle, and Chemical company Investors to profiteer off of unproven, dangerous, untested quack treatments, which he himself partakes in and uses to promote its widespread dissemination. He recruits purveyors of alternative medicine under massive pressure to lie and fabricate success stories of miracle cures and tonics, and incorporates financially desperate Doctors and practitioners groups to market these unproven remedies, and validate his political ideology. He experiments on War Veterans and members of the Army with these dangerous remedies. Then allows it to go public for the whole population.

The leader in question was Adolf Hitler. And his drug of choice was Methamphetamine.
These are the facts. You can draw whatever conclusions from them that you like.

Hitler became a drug addict. This is known to most people who have studied some history. So was Hermann Goering, who became addicted to pain killers after getting shot during the Munich Beer Hall Putsch in 1923.

Hitler was afflicted with a variety of physical, mental, and psychosomatic disorders, which he attempted to self-treat through a vegetarian diet, avoidance of Alcohol and Tobacco, and sexual abstinence. The last item was not so difficult, as Hitler was born with a micro-penis and retracted Testicle, which made conventional intercourse virtually impossible. He swore off meat after his experiences at the Front during the Great War. He was afflicted with Intestinal disorders, migraines, psychotic episodes, and in later years presented tremors and other symptoms associated with Parkinsons. Now enter his personal Physician, Doctor Theodor Morell.

Before we go forward, one thing which is crucial to know is that the Medical profession in Germany, and Austria was heavily weighted toward European Jewry in that era. Jewish Doctors, Surgeons, and Psychiatrists/Psychologists were percentage wise large and very influential. For example, Hitler attacked the field of Psychiatry as a "Jewish Science", largely because of the influence of the Freudians. 6000 Jewish Doctors were removed from their positions forced into exile or killed. Hitler disbanded the German Physicians organizations and instead formed Nazified Medical groups of Practioners, with very little training, a few Homeopathic skills, and a Racial/Aryan view of all matters of public health. These included various anti-Vax, Naturist and Nutritionist and healing groups, not all of whom were Nazis. Doctors, researchers, technicians that were not Nazified were discredited and driven out.

Dr. Morell was known throughout Germany for his unconventional treatments. He was brought in as Hitler's physician to assist him in everything he did, until the Berlin Downfall of 1945. He married a wealthy actress, who subsidized his acquisitions of then cutting edge medical technology. His specialty was skin diseases and Venereal diseases. He refused positions with the King of Romania and Shah of Iran to serve Hitler. He came to Hitler's attention by treating him for Bone spurs. (Kidding, just checking to see if you are following)

He treated Hitler's photographer Hoffman for something or other, who then introduced him to Hitler, who was suffering digestive problems. He was prescribed a cocktail of Vitamins and E Coli called "Mutaflor" for stomach cramps. He also treated a leg rash successfully. Morell was pronounced a genius, and became permanently ensconced as Hitler's Doctor.

The main reason Morell was brought in however was his supposed specialty in treating Syphilis. Hitler was greatly afraid of the disease, which he associated with Jews.
Morell was assigned to write prescriptions for others in the inner circle such as Speer and Himmler, but they refused to take them, denouncing him as a quack.

The main drug given to Hitler by Morell was administered by injection, and was called "Vitamultin", given him in the morning for energy. A packet was given to Himmler who in turn sent it to a lab to have it analyzed by SS physicians. It was Methamphetamine. Goering gave Morell the nickname "Reichspritzenmeister", (Reich master of injections)

According to Morell's diary, Hitler was given up to 20 injections a day, and additionally pills. Some were Morell's own homemade concoctions. Many were toxic, and added up to 74 different substances in 28 different mixtures. These included Cocaine and Heroin, Caffeine, Desoxycorticosterone, (Steroids), Oxycodone, Barbituates, and Nikethamide to bring him up from Barbituates, Pervitin injections, (Also Meth) Testosterone, and infinitum. Morell was given exclusive patents on these drug cocktails and eventually became one of the richest members of the Third Reich hierarchy. His most profitable quack drug was one of the Methamphetamine combos called Vitamultin, which was marketed to the Nazi Labor Front to keep them working hard for long hours for the War effort.

In 2017, Author Norman Ohler published a book with new material, called "Blitzed", Drugs in the Third Reich. He documents literally that Hitler's Germany was an Altered State. From factory workers, to homemakers, businessmen and members of the SS, almost everyone was high on something. Pervitin, Morell's concoction, was a slightly lower dose of Crystal Meth, which Hitler himself had led the way in taking. Millions of doses were being produced each week, and Hitler's favored Doctor's groups were being given free samples to use on themselves and distribute to their patients. Pervitin was the Miracle Cure for everything from back pain to post partum depression, frigidity to impotence, fatigue, first date jitters, and insomnia(?!)

For the German Army, (Wehrmacht) the beauty was the euphoria, awareness, focus, confidence and energy it gave its users. Users could stay awake for 48 hours. It is documented by Ohler that this drug usage was a critical factor in Hitler's invasion of Poland, and what were described as the "fabulous" effects on the successful Blitzkrieg" in which the Nazis gained more territory in 100 hours than the Germans gained in over 4 years in the First World War, which left Winston Churchill in his own words, "Dumbfounded".

So, to recap, Dr. Morell and Hitler's managers developed an array of quack, toxic, addictive drug cocktails which were administered for the purpose of keeping him in some level of functionality to conduct his open air rallies, and run the War effort. At the end, only a drug called Eukadol, (cousin of Heroin) could keep him going. But, because Hitler had out of paranoia and the anti-semitic campaign purged the competent Doctors and Medical associations, there was no check at all on what he was doing. And, because he was "The Fuehrer", no one could interfere with Morell's quack drugs being mass administered to the German population and Military.

There is a lot to unpack here. A lot of insights that you can derive that are relevant to today. You can see how a suggestible and terrified population under conditions of Economic Depression, War, and Social collapse, can be led and manipulated by con men, shysters liars and Miracle Men. How literally, a Nation so held in the grip of one insane person can be misled into the abyss. That did happen. You see the parallels to today. What makes us so sure that nothing like that could happen here?

Well, I don't think we are that far gone. Yet. However, I try to never miss an opportunity to point out similarities between now and then, to show others the direction we are headed in. It is harder to undo a disaster after it happens than to simply prevent it before it does.
