My thoughts on the Boomer-Millennial Divide

Boomers and others that complain about Millennials are like the Artist who paints a self portrait, who when finished, destroys the painting because he/she hates it. We brought the younger generation into this world, we created and allowed to flourish the culture we raised them in, and we gave them the information technology with which they can see anything, say anything, and destroy each others sense of identity with slander and shaming with an instantaneous swipe of their thumbs. We the Boomers, neglected to fight effectively for an optimistic Economic future, for the most part, and we sat back and allowed the Phantasmagoric Culture of Hollywood sex and violence and Roman Empire style Bloodsports to numb them to almost every form of senseless and random brutality.  And, then we turn around and complain about how they turned out.
Ah, some object, "not me! Not my kids! I protected my kids from all of that I did this and I did that"!. Well, rather than us Boomers digging in and getting defensive and so forth, why not just admit we didn't do enough to secure the future for the Millennials, and whatever problems they have of neurosis, cynicism, self absorption, are the result of the culture we created, the economy and political legacy we left them, and the cumulative acts of omission by us that allowed us to fall into our current situation. Not a guilt trip, but taking responsibility for those issues which we neglected in the past, and acting upon it.  But then again, most of us Boomers are not known for our humility.
