The New Secession Movement- Ending of Mask Mandates, Pandemic Restrictions, Voting Rights

Image
The New Secession Movement-- States Ending Mask Mandates, Pandemic Restrictions, and the Right to Vote March 31, 2021 Governors such as Tate Reeves of Mississippi, Kay Ivey of Alabama, Abbott of Texas, Kristy Noem of South Dakota, Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, and others are currently spreading the 4th wave of the Pandemic with premature full openings and lifting of mask mandates. They are also spreading disinformation and lies. Several of them are legitimately stupider than a bag of hammers, the types of idealogues who believe that public health measures are just an excuse by "Big Government" to expand their control over people's lives.  Reeves responded to President Biden's appeal to restore mask mandates with a Tweet, saying "you mean to tell me that because they have more cases in New York and New Jersey I'm supposed to shut down our State and give the government more control of our lives? No thanks Mr. President". Since I'm not a professional writ...

An Excellent Salon Article By DeVega, Which I Have To Criticize

Image
Chauncey DeVega's latest Salon article and interview (link below) presents some important concepts. I recommend it. There can be no doubt that the current Trump-GOP movement is a Neofascist movement. The interviewee makes some salient points about the appeal of the GOP's " cancel culture" campaign as an appeal to infantilism, nostalgia for childhood, as well as patriarchical authoritarianism and White Supremacy.  Also that it's an outlook entirely dependent on conspiracism and victimization, as was the Europeans susceptibility to Fascism after WWI on the basis of the myth that there was a "Jewish/Socialist" conspiracy to take away all of their nice things, or blame them for those things lost.  What is missing from this piece is that they are treating the rise of Fascism as a sociological  phenomenon, when in fact it is something different.  Fascist regimes do not emerge out of some political primordial soup as a random reaction to historical events. Why I Have Good Reason To Trust Joe Biden's Judgement-- Generally Speaking

Image
March 28, 2021 Sometimes in the course of scanning News headlines, an article will catch my eye and trigger an interesting thought or memory. Writing about it then becomes an exercise through which I can sort out my own thoughts, and put them to a test of sorts by posting it for public discussion. The key to writing effectively about politics is to want to make an intervention to help others, and to do it without fear of being proven wrong. Being proven wrong is how we learn, and it takes a kind of internal struggle to fight down the old ego and risk criticism. Personally, as much as I enjoy sharing pics of outings, food porn, and enjoying other people's stories on Facebook, I have a difficult time expressing myself through memes or sound bites. If something strikes me as important, I'll write something on it and try to avoid long-windedness or stream of consciousness rambling. However I can't do "short". It never works, sorry. I suppose I am a Facebook non-con...

The Trump Big Lie-- The "China Virus" Written March 20, 2020

Image
There are millions of ahistorical and ignorant bigoted idiots who have bought into the Trumpian attempt to deflect from his own criminal negligence by calling coronavirus the "Chinese Virus". It is not only typically disgusting rhetoric, but is a distortion.  Reality is that because of several factors, such as deindustrialization, lack of public health and medical infrastructure, obscene profiteering from big Pharma, lack of investment in real scientific R&D, compromised immunological conditions due to poor nutrition and environmental cofactors, and an unjust distribution of wealth due to a long term build up of a financial speculative "Bubble Economy" through Wall Street greed and Gambling mania, WE MADE OURSELVES VULNERABLE TO THIS!  Our misjudgment, poor decisions and bad policies opened us up to this, and it was wrong headed US policy that made us economically dependent for so long on importing cheap Chinese goods, (exploiting their cheap labor market) whic...

My Thoughts On The Significance Of The Recent Racist Murders And Attacks Against Asians

Image
My Thoughts On The Significance of The Recent Violence and Anti-Asian Murders March 19 First, I should say that Martha and I have for ten years been a Host Family for International English Language Students, coming from 15 different Nations. Of the 26 Students we have hosted, half have been Asian (Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea), and most them have been young women. They have been and still are like our very own, and we love them more than I have words for. I've been struggling with how to write about the recent events out of fear that I would give full rein to my anger, and say things that I couldn't take back. So it's taken a few days to put aside my unhinged initial reaction, and get to the fundamentals.   What happened in Georgia should make clear that what has been unleashed in the USA is not "politics" or culture war, or even the same old historic problem of White Male Supremacy alone.  This is a marker of an extreme "variant" of a pre-exist...
